Sony Mobile has just announced the release of yet another Xperia smartphone in the Japanese market. The Sony Xperia VL is a variant of the internationally available Xperia V and this mid-range Sony gadget will be launched through KDDI before the end of the year. But this is just half of the Xperia story. The features and specs list of the Xperia VL is strikingly similar to another variant of the Xperia V, the Xperia AX. Save for some minor differences in the UI and the CDMA support added to the Xperia VL, it is exactly the same as Xperia AX which is made available in Japan through DoCoMo.
The roll-out into the Japanese market by the Sony Xperia AX was officially announced by Sony Mobile early this month. Additionally, there are a couple of notable differences between Xperia V and Xperia VL. The latter comes bundled with the 1-seg mobile TV feature and a desk stand, and these features are not present in the Xperia V. With all these new models under the Xperia series, Sony Mobile appears to have run out of letters for their new models and it has already designated their gadgets using model names with 2-letter combinations.
The Sony Xperia VL is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and this is matched with a 1GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory. The handset also supports additional memory storage of up to 32GB through its microSDHC card slot. It also comes out of the box packed with 4G LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Infrared, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and global roaming capabilities.
The Sony Xperia VL comes with an interesting array of features and among the top goodies that this Sony Mobile gadget offers include a 4.3-inch Reality Display which touts a 1280 x 720p screen resolution and powered by Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2 and a 13MP camera on the rear side. It’s a device that is bruited to be “highly” resistant to water and dust and thus, we should consider that Sony has designed and developed the VL for rugged and rough situations.
Aside from its TV Tuner, the Xperia VL also comes with mobile wallet and infrared payment modes, MHL and Bluetooth 4.0. The device is also equipped with NFC chipset and this allows phone users to tap the mobile payment mode with merchandises that support it as well as seamlessly share data and other contents with others. Sony has also provided Smart Tags and with the use of the NFC chips, users of the Xperia VL can change their profiles automatically on predefined locations. The Sony gadget tips the scale at 120 grams and has a footprint of 129 x 65 x 10.8 mm. And when it hits the KDDI shelves before the end of the years, this Sony handset will be available 4 different color options – Black, White, Blue and Pink.
