The wait is finally over as the electronics giant of Korea, Samsung has officially unveiled their much awaited Samsung Galaxy S4 (I9500) smartphone at the Samsung Unpacked event held at New York on 15th March, 2013. Though by its look the latest handset may appear like an identical twin to earlier launched S3 model but this flagship model from the company comes loaded with features that will give you an excellent communication and entertainment experience. Lets first talk about the make and the build of the handset. Measuring 136.6 X 69.8 X 7.9 mm in size it has a weight of around 130 grams and definitely has a slimmer waistline as compared to the SIII model. The Hyperglaze finish of phone along with new dotted pattern makes it look smart and decent. One thing that can disappoint some of the users is the fact that plastic is used to carve the body of the phone. Initially the handset will be made available in the color options of White Frost and Black Mist and maybe the other color options are available later.
The Super AMOLED display of S4 stands stunningly at 4.99 inches in size and is made up of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The screen features multi touch, Touch WIZ UI, 441ppi pixel density and resolution count of 1080 X 1920 pixels. The bright, big and PenTile matrix display will surely get the attention of the users with its viewing angles and low reflectivity. The internationally available version of this phone will be powered by Exynos 5 Octa chipset that will come along with four 1.6GHz of Cortex A-15 cores, four 1.2 GHz of Cortex A7 cores and PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU. Besides this, another version will also be launched by the company that will come packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset with the 4 Krait 300 Cores and the Adreno 320GPU. Both the versions will feature Android 4.2.2. Jelly Bean OS along with 2GB RAM for smooth and fast performance.
Wide range of sensors comes along with this latest phone which includes the accelerometer sensor, gyro sensor, proximity sensor, compass, barometer, gesture sensor, pedometer, and temperature and humidity sensor. One of the most striking specifications of this smartphone is its 13MP camera that comes loaded with impressive list of features so as to capture detailed images of all your special moments. The dual shot feature of the camera enables the user to record the footage on the rear as well as the front camera simultaneously. The Story Album feature of the phone can be used in order to store in the images in a photo album according to the information of Geo tagging, timeline or events. Other camera features include Cinema Photo, Touch Focus, Face and Smile Detection, HDR, Image Stabilization, 1080p video recording and Drama Shot. A 2 MP front camera that is capable of 1080p video recording is also present.
The “Group Play” feature of the phone gives the freedom to the users so that they can enjoy their favorite music, images, games as well as documents without any need for cellular signal. There are 2 Smart Control feature in the handset including the Smart Scroll and the Smart Pause. In the Smart Scroll feature, the web page can be scrolled without touching the display and this can be done through the eye tracking or eye gaze. In the Smart Pause feature, the videos that you are watching on your handset will automatically pause as soon as you move your eyes away from it. Again when you look back, the video will restart. Both these Smart Controls, makes use of the front camera for its functioning so in case of low light conditions, when front camera is not very effective, the feature may also not work properly.
Now with Samsung Galaxy S4, you can simply wave in front of your handset to control the music player, web browser and dialer interface and this is all thanks to its Air Gesture feature. Its Air View feature can be used to see the mail content, image gallery, S Planner and videos by simply hovering the finger. Now language will play no barrier while communicating with your loved ones as the “S Translator” feature of the phone provides instant and quick translation of the language through text or voice translation. The phone will be available in memory options of 16/32/64GB and will support expansion of external memory by up to 64GB. Connectivity is provided through options of GPRS, LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP+EDR, EDGE, NFC and microUSB 2.0. The big Li-ion 2600 mAh of battery will surely provide a good back up to the users. Additional specifications of the smartphone include Samsung Knox, GPS with AGPS and GLONASS, TV Out, music player, video player, document viewer, HSPA+42 Mbps, IR LED (Remote Control) and others. Samsung Galaxy S4 will be made available in the market from April this year. The pricing details are not yet revealed by the company.
