Samsung is keeping the specs and features of the Galaxy S3 Mini, which is scheduled to be unveiled on October 11, under wraps. Still, several reports have been released over the last few days on various details about this smaller version of this Samsung flagship smartphone and these were purportedly derived from a DLNA certification and a UAP on the WAP site of the Samsung Mobile.
According to these reports, a certain Samsung model GT-I8190 has been mentioned in a DLNA certification and in a User Agent Profile. This Android gadget is believed to be that of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini. It was also cited in these reports that the certification for the said Samsung smartphone model was issued on October 4.
From these reports, we were able to draw several important data and information on the specs and features of the Galaxy S3 Mini. The Android smartphone will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual core processor which is similar to the one found under the hood of the ATIV S Windows Phone 8 and Galaxy S3 I747. This is one of the main distinctions between the Galaxy S3 Mini and its bigger sibling, which features a quad core processor.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini will also feature a 4-inch HD screen, which is protected by a Corning 2 Gorilla glass, a 5MP rear camera and a 1.9MP front-facing camera. The Android smartphone will be available in both 8GB and 16GB variants and the gadgets will have options for expansion of storage capacity through its MicroSD card. The Galaxy S3 Mini will also come with 1880mAh battery and it will also roll out preloaded with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Other key features of the Galaxy S3 Mini include Bluetooth 4.0, micro USB, NFC and WiFi connectivity. Various sources believe that this soon-to-be-launched Samsung gadget will also have the same 5 color options offered in Galaxy S3 plus 2 new color options – Lemon Grass and Rose Pink.
While this Samsung smartphone is branded as a smaller version of the Galaxy S3, the cutting down in size was made without significantly reducing the size of the screen. Between the Galaxy S3 Mini and the Galaxy S3, the variance in width is only 0.8 inch and it will have a 1220 X 640p resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:10.
The teaser for the invitation to the October 11 launch of the Samsung Galaxy S3 highlights the “big” impact of the small device as can be gleaned from the header of the banner headline for the special event, which confidently declares that something “small can be big.” Market analysts and industry observers expect this to go live sooner and it may even hit the market ahead of the Galaxy Note 2.
Of course, the big story about Galaxy S3 Mini is its price. It will be strategically positioned to capture a sizable market share as the 8GB variant will have a sticker price of $400 while the 16B variant will be sold for $475.
