This just came in and it puts an end to one of the Nexus rumors that have been circulating. Samsung Galaxy GT-I9260, contrary to earlier speculations that it is the next Galaxy Nexus, is in fact the Galaxy Premier. The Nexus rumor was triggered by earlier reports of it being attached to the specification sheet that bore the reference “Nexus.” Thus, it fueled a stream of speculations that a new Galaxy Nexus is nearing its launch date.
Initial reports from unnamed sources cited the striking similarities between the Galaxy GT-I9260 and the Galaxy S3 and that it will have a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 16GB of internal storage. In addition to this, there were also reports that it will feature a 4.65-inch HD display, a 1.9MP camera on the front side and an 8MP rear camera.
The sudden shift in all these speculations started with the leaked image of the Samsung device with model number GT-I9260. And while experts may have prematurely concluded that it is a revamped version of the Galaxy Nexus as it follows in sequence the model number for the Nexus handset which is GT-I9250 and the obvious similarities in their hardware, it turned out that such assumption was way off mark. But as can be gleaned from the leaked image, some quarters believe that the unnamed Samsung gadget may actually be a mid-range Android device with TouchWiz functionality.
Nonetheless, the hardware specs of the Galaxy Premier don’t stretch the distance from the Galaxy Nexus. Aside from the SuperAMOLED display with 1280 x 720p resolution, it comes with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor under the hood and this is matched by a 1GB RAM. This soon-to-be-released Samsung gadget will obviously be running on the latest Android OS Jelly Bean. The Android device will also feature NFC, DLNA, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. And while some tech buffs are already tagging it as a mid-range gadget, we still don’t have the complete picture and it is still premature to draw a definitive conclusion about Galaxy GT-I9260.
If the leaked image turns out to be correct, then we are indeed looking at a Samsung device that looks like a new Nexus. However, the TouchWiz interface of the Samsung Galaxy Premier is telling a different story. Additionally, what we can deduce from the picture is that it is an Android device with a pretty good design and it practically corrects earlier speculation that it will feature the low-tier 5MP camera as it will actually be touting an 8MP camera on its backside.
With all these latest information and the leaked image, a lot of the earlier rumors and confusion about the GT-I9260, the next Nexus and the Galaxy Premier are finally laid to rest. Suffice it to say, there are no details yet about the pricing and probable date of release of the Samsung gadget.
