Nokia Offers Free 620 Phone To Developers for Updating their App

Nokia 620

Nokia 620 Windows Phone

In an effort to spur on developers to update their windows phone applications, Nokia has contacted developers to offer them something they can’t refuse:  a free phone.  Nokia is scanning the app marketplace for their greatest ally (developers) in order to get them to update their existing apps.  The motivation is unclear, but it probably is threefold 1)  To stimulate the application marketplace, 2) To get developers to update their applications to Windows 8, and 3)  To get their product in the hands of developers.  Nokia is offering a choice in exchange for the app update to the marketplace,  either a 620 dev kit or a free design consultation.  It is not clear how many developers are being contacted or which ones.  The offer may only be being extended to applications that are popular in the marketplace.  Whatever Nokia’s reasons,  developers shouldn’t complain, after all, it’s a $99.00 value, perhaps more value than some developers are making on their existing applications.

Offer ends November 30, 2013:
