Things are apparently unfolding at breakneck speed. It was just last month that we were glued to the news about the release of a huge LG phone or what is now known to be a phablet and yet we get this latest report about this new gadget, the LG Optimus Vu 2. It is obviously a move to challenge Samsung Galaxy Note II.
It all started with a report yesterday on the key features and specs of the Optimus Vu successor which have been “leaked” in an article on Bad IT Tong, a Korean tech blog. This turned out to be just the prelude to the eventual announcement by LG about the LG Optimus Vu 2. There is no official confirmation yet from LG on the release date of the Optimus Vu successor. It comes as a bit strange that we are now looking at what could well be a replacement for the original Optimus Vu which, according to market and industry experts, is making quite an impressive showing even while it still has to establish its foothold on certain markets.
For consumers who have not bought the original Optimus Vu, which is tagged on Verizon as LG Intuition or haven’t decided yet on buying the Galaxy Note II, this latest news on Optimus Vu 2 might as well convince them to reconsider their choices.
According to the latest report on the new Optimus Vu edition, it is billed to be a gadget that is packed with powerful features and specs. The LG pahblet is expected to be bumped up with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with LTE support and will come with twice the RAM of the original Optimus Vu at 2 GB. There is also an indication that the screen size for the Optimus Vu 2 will not increase and will still come out of the box with the same 5-inch LCD display with a 1024 x 768-pixel resolution.
This upcoming Optimus phablet will roll out with Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich – a bit of a damper for some consumers, as the release of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is just around the corner. Nonetheless, some observers see this as a solid confirmation that it will hit the market sooner than we think. Additionally, this LG gadget will have a 16GB internal storage and expandable to 32GB external memory on its microSD.
The report also confirms that this imminent Optimus edition will have a rear-facing 8MP camera with an LED flash and a BSI sensor for that perfect shot under low-light conditions and this is matched by a 1.3MP front-facing camera with power LED. Other interesting features include Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, MHL and the LG gadget is expected to support Wi-Fi direct, DLNA and USB 2.0.
With all these advance information on the key specs and features of the Optimus Vu 2, it is quite clear that it will definitely be at loggerheads with Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for pole position in the phablet segment. LG has not confirmed anything yet about the schedule of its release and on when it is going to be shipped. Nonetheless, observers expect that it will be priced roughly at $865.
