HTC Wildfire S: Let’s Load It With The Cyanogen Mod 10 Jellybean Firmware

Every once in a while, there will be new HTC Wildfire software updates available, courtesy of our hardworking jailbreaking leaders.

Updating is usually very simple and all you have to do is download the update and install it on your phone. You should beware however that depending on the type of update as well as your jailbreaking expertise, installing it might lead to the deletion of all your files. You should always back them up, just to be on the safe side. You will also most likely incur operator costs for checking and installing the updates which is standard practice.

Most HTC Wildfire S owners have a latest update as their option at the moment, the latest Cyanogen Mod 10 firmware. The new version offers extra features such as a theme manager, notification bar toggles and lock screen shortcuts as well as the weather app. It does have some bugs but these are being ironed out as we speak.

How to update

  • Before you get to downloading and installing, save all your HTC files on your PC, so that you can restore them, if in any event, they are corrupted or lost. There are specific ways to have a copy of each file, such as using an SMS backup and restore app for your text messages. It is not advisable to use the HTC Sync for back up, as it might not detect some ROM firmware.
  • Next, disable or uninstall all security suites in your device as they may interrupt the process of updating. Make sure also that your USB debugging is enabled and have more than 40% charge remaining in your phone as you do not want it going off while you are still updating.
  • Once you have done this, download the firmware package as well as the Google Apps package to your PC then place them on your device (not too deep). Once you have done this, turn off your phone for it to go into recovery mode.
  • Once the gadget is in recovery mode, choose the Cyanogen Mod 10 firmware and Google Apps packages. It should take about 5minutes to install the updates. After this, go back and boot up your system to normal mode. You can check whether the update was successful by going to settings and choose “about phone”. In the rare event, that your phone refuses to come on or hangs, just have patience and long-press the power button and reboot it!
