Users of the HTC One X will now have something about their smartphones to smile about. The device is getting an over-the-air (OTA) update of its Android operating system. The update will bring the One X to run the 4.0.4 version of Android.
The benefit of the update includes an optimized performance of the stock web browser that is the device’s default. The upgrade of the Sense UI will bring a smoother animation on the homescreen. Users will also notice an update on the notification bar. If you remember Sense 3.0 that had quick settings, now that feature is back in the Sense 4.1 that the HTC One X is getting.
The update actually started in Germany on August 12, 2012. It is quite large at 148MB. If you don’t have an unlimited plan for data with your cellular network, it’s definitely better to use a Wi-Fi network when updating. So far, the update is rolling out in Europe, with the rest of the world expected to follow. The file size of the update will likely change with specific regions, but it will not greatly vary from the mentioned 148MB.
Other newer benefits include the improvement on white balance and auto focus options for the camera. Users now have an integrated sign-in option for Facebook. This means that, you will sing-in once and automatically login to all apps that support the use of Facebook login. Well, the international version of HTC One X was released after the US version, which was named HTC One X 4G. The update is also following the same trend, coming after the US version.
To update your device :-
- Wait for a notification on the availability of the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android on your handset.
- Follow instructions of the updating process, (which may require a reboot of your device).
- If you think, you might have cleared the notification unknowingly, use the settings option. This is available under settings>>about phone>>software update.
Once you are done, you will see a dedicated button for switching between tabs. The hardware will become smarter with improvements in memory capacity, platform stability that will provide the improved browsing experience mentioned earlier. Oh, remember that the HTC One X (international) is a favorite of music lovers so the good news is that Beats audio is also getting an upgrade with the OTA updates. This is another reason for the device to get even more stars in user and technical reviews as it continues to give an authentic sound experience for users.
