Facebook Home and the Future of Tablets and Smartphones

It was not a big surprise for Android fans that Mr. Zuckerberg (Facebook SEO) announced the first Facebook phone made by HTC today. The model is called First and it can be considered as an innovative device not because of its hardware specifications but because of its software – it has a completely new ROM which is called Facebook Home and according to lots of specialists it will be the future of tablets and smartphones.

This launcher has been anticipated by thousands of people all over the world. The good thing is it will keep working with your favorite applications while at the same time it will have many new changes that will make the whole process of communicating with friends and relatives easier and far more pleasant. Such feature is Coverfeed – thanks to it you will have instant access to the latest photos and updates by your Facebook friends. All comments and likes are going to be easily accessible and seen. There is also a new notification pane that shows important posts depending on the customization you have set up.

Our personal favorite innovation here is Chat Heads. Thanks to it you can sync your SMS and Facebook Messenger. Now it is possible to lead a conversation without having to close any application. The floating pictures of your contacts will be on the screen and you can easily drag the bubbles anywhere on the display. In case you want to start a chat with a certain person, just tap on the picture and Facebook’s app will do its magic.

The whole notifications settings were majorly changed as well. Now you will be able to sort them by many different criteria. You will be able to receive notifications from your friends and see what they are up to. If we have to sum up the whole conception of Facebook Home it is it will turn your phone into one big newsfeed.

Facebook Home is increasing its popularity immensely. Many manufacturers such as Huawei, Samsung, HTC, Sony have already signed contracts for the support of the platform.

Many phones that are currently on the market will be compatible with Facebook’s platform but it is unclear how the update is going to be performed. Probably this will happen via OTA (over the air) update. Phones such as Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, S4 and HTC One’s series could be updated to Facebook Home. Soon support to various tablet models will be added but no timeframe was given.
