Comparing the Galaxy S4 to the iPhone 5

When you are trying to decide between mobile phones, choosing the best one is not always easy. This review attempts compare the primary features of the Galaxy S4 against the iPhone 5 to help you in your smartphone choice.

One noticeable feature that pops out about the S4 is its large screen. The S4 sports a 5 inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920. The iPhone 4 has a 4 inch screen rendering only 640 x 1136. Although the S4 may be harder to fit in your pocket and slightly heavier, it certainly gives you a bit more screen real estate and pixel resolution.

The S4 has a quad-core 1.6 GHz chipset and supports a Micro SD card to allow you to expand memory. The iPhone 5 comes only with a 1.3 GHz dual core processor and no expandable memory. Although both the iPhone and Android have similar internal memory, the S4 has twice as much RAM as the iPhone 5, 2GB vs 1GB. What these specs amount to is that the S4 outperforms the i

As the S4 has a larger battery than the iPhone 5, it outshines the iPhone 5 in battery life for all aspects of use. In tests, call time for the S4 were around 1000 minutes, the iPhone around 550 minutes. Internet use for the S4 lasted around 405 minutes, where for the iPhone 5, about 250 minutes.

Additional Hardware

The Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5 pretty much match most standard features such as Wifi and BlueTooth. The Galaxy S4 comes with an MHL slot which allows you to output HD Video. This is missing from the iPhone 5.

The Samsung has a 13-Megapixel sensor vs. an 8 mega-pixel camera for iPhone 5, but picture quality is relatively the same.

The 16GB Galaxy S4 is priced at roughly $549.00. The iPhone 5 can be gotten for roughly the same price of $549.00.

Newer iPhone 5S

Recently, Apple released the iPhone 5S which was built specifically for the 64-bit architecture. The iPhone 5s still has a smaller screen the the S4 and still has a lower resolution, making the S4 better for playing games and watching movies. In performance tests the iPhone 5s outperformed the Galaxy S4, though. iPhone 5s runs the iOS 7 operating system, which probably explains some of the performance improvements over the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5S can cost up to $849.00.
