ASUS has recently announced the launch of its latest tablet called ASUS FonePad at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. As the name suggests, the device will also offer full phone functionality and will prove to be an apt choice for all those users who need to have the entertainment features of a tablet and communication features of the phone without carrying 2 devices. The tablet comes in metallic finish, measures 196.4 X 120.1 X 10.4 mm in size and has a weight of around 340 grams. The IPS LCD capacitive touch screen present in the device measures 7 inches in size and supports multi touch up to 10 fingers. The resolution of the display is 800 X 12880 pixels which along with 216 ppi pixel density and 16M colors offer clear and bright content.
Powered by new 1.2 GHz of Intel Atom Z2420 processor the device runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and features PowerVR SGX540 GPU and 1GB RAM. The 3.15 MP of camera that comes packed with the tablet is capable of taking good quality pictures as well as 720p videos. The Geo Tagging feature of the camera will tag your images with the location and its AF will further enhance the picture quality. For facilitating video calling 1.2 MP secondary camera is also made available. The music player of the device supports multiple audio formats including MP3, eAAC+ and WAV so that you have access to all your favorite music tracks even on the go. In order to deliver precise and clear sound quality the device also features the ASUS Sonic Master Audio Technology along with Maxx Audio Software.
For enhanced entertainment, FonePad provides access to Android OS and Google Play, Floating App, ASUS Studio & Story App, Buddy Buzz, SuperNote Lite and other apps. The full 3G telephony support in the tablet enables the user to enjoy web browsing and streaming of videos and audios in a smooth manner. The users can also make the voice calls with the help of built in noise cancelling microphone or through a Bluetooth headset. Other options for connectivity include microUSB 2.0, GPRS, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, WiFi b/g/n, GPS with AGPS and GLONASS and EDGE.
The internal memory of the tablet will come in the option of 16/32GB whereas its external memory can be expanded up to 32GB with the help of microSD card slot so that while storing your documents and other data you will not have to bother about the storage space. The device users will also be provided with 5GB of free lifetime ASUS WebStorage so that they can share and sync their data with other devices. ASUS FonePad comes loaded with Li-ion 4270 mAh of battery that promises a talk time of around 9 hours. The tablet will be made available in US markets from March this year with an approximate starting price tag of $249 whereas in UK it will have an approximate price of € 179 and will be available after second quarter of this year.
