Apple iPhone 5 Vs HTC One X – Comparison of Specs and Features

Following the hype and hoopla of the iPhone 5 roll-up, a head-to-head comparison of this latest iPhone variant with the other top end smartphones in the market is the next logical move. We want to know exactly how it matches up with its toughest competitors in the market. In this article, we will do a head-to-head comparison of the various features and specs of the iPhone 5 and HTC One X and try to find out which is the more superior gadget between the two.

HTC One X Vs Apple iPhone 5

1. Display

Of course, when it comes to the display, consumers would subscribe to the rule that bigger is better. Thus, HTC One X, with its 4.7-inch display, is an attractive choice. But what is really more impressive about this Android smartphone is that image quality has not been compromised for screen size. It comes with a 1280 x 720 screen resolution and a 312ppi pixel density.

iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 display, at 4 inches, is pretty decent and it is more than enough for a good number of users. This new Apple device boosts the media experience of its users, specifically on the video playback and gaming experience. And these are achieved in iPhone 5 while ensuring that its physical manageability is preserved. This new Apple gadget comes with a relatively attractive 1136 x 640 screen resolution and a higher 326ppi pixel density.

2. Weight and Size

It goes without saying that we would have to make room for the expansive display of the HTC One X, and with a 134.4 x 69.9 x8.9 mm dimension, it is the larger device between the two. And because of its larger size, it is also the heavier device at 130 grams.

iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 has a smaller frame with a 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm dimension. And it is also lighter than the HTC One X at 112 grams. However, these variances may not be considered critical by most consumers as they would give more importance to the screen size.

3. Processor

The HTC gadget packs the heavier wallop with its 1.5 GHZ quad-core Tegra 3 processor, although performance variance will ultimately depend of the application that you are running. The adamant refusal by Apple to reveal their clock speed is actually fuelling the speculation that it is slower than the One X.

iPhone 5

A lot of excitement was generated by the inclusion of the new A6 chip under the hood of the iPhone 5. It was clear even prior to the actual launch of the Apple gadget that this new processor doubles up on the GPU and CPU performance of the older A5 chip. This may create an impression that iPhone 5 is above the standard from the standpoint of hardware. However, it conveniently fails to specify the magic number, whether it is a two or a four.

4. Storage and Memory

This is probably one area where the One X does not shine well as it only has a single iteration with a 32GB internal memory. Since neither device features microSD slots, this could be a major reason for deciding against One X.

iPhone 5

While the iPhone 5 and the One X are matched evenly on the aspect of memory with both submitting an identical 1GB RAM, the iPhone 5 scores better when it comes to storage. This new handset from Apple comes in 3 variants – 16GB, 32GB and the 64GB.

5. Operating System

What we have for the operating system is a classic battle between Android and iOS. One X is running on Google’s platform Android 4.0, which is also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. The Google OS is no lightweight, although majority of Android fans would be more interested with the newest Android iteration – version 4.1, which is also known as Jelly Bean.

iPhone 5

This Apple gadget is expected to bring a good number of benefits with the new iOS6 and it is undoubtedly one interface that consumers will find appealing. Ease of use and solid app selection are the strong suits of this new platform from Apple. Still, the core issues with its controls remain unchanged and adding an extra row of icons won’t really make that much difference.

6. Camera

Looking at the numbers, these two gadgets are pretty much even as far as camera is concerned. The snapper of the One X comes up with a 3264 x 2448 pixel resolution and 1080p for video. It moves up a step higher as it comes with faster aperture speed at f/2.0 compared to the f/2.4 of Apple.

iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 retains the same 8MP camera featured in the 4S, but optimized it with the addition of an upgraded panorama mode that provides a wider range of options and a sapphire crystal component for its lenses for added durability. The front-face camera has also been upgraded to 1.2MP, giving you a high definition experience with FaceTime calls.

This is one of those instances where new things don’t necessarily come up with better options. And while HTC One X has been around for quite a time, it still shines brightly alongside the iPhone 5, hailed as the ‘greatest’ from Apple. It makes us wonder why the company is so serious in its campaign in blocking the entry of the HTC One X into the US market. Clearly, there are several things that One X has that are not available in iPhone 5.
