Finally out to combat the other small 7 inch tablets running amok on the market, the new iPad Mini was officially announced by Apple earlier the other day. Rumors and speculations on the development of a smaller iPad were rampant on the net and in the news for quite some time and, to Apple lover’s reliefs, they actually turned out to be true. Let’s take a look at what this new iPad is all about and see if all the hype was actually warranted!
First off, we obviously have to discuss the size. As noted earlier, this new iPad was released to combat the other smaller tablets that were slowly bleeding Apple’s revenue due to the larger size of the full-sized iPads. This new iPad, while it is within the 7 inch margin of the other smaller tablets, is slightly larger and boy do those few smidgens of an inch make a difference!
The iPad mini is 7.87 inches tall by 5.3 inches wide and it’s a fantastic compromise in size. It’s sleek aluminum back feels excellent in the palm of your hand and the weight, which is only 308 grams I might add, definitely does not strain your wrist during long periods of holding it unlike the larger iPad siblings.
So what is the display like, you ask? Well, the iPad Mini unfortunately does not have Retina display like the IPhone’s and some of the other Apple devices, but it does punch out a pretty good display of 163 pixels per inch on its 1024 x 768 pixel screen. Speaking of screen size, you may be wondering how the touchscreen buttons are on this new Apple device so we will be honest, they’re a little small.
The button size is really the only complaint with this nifty little package of innovation and joy. While you may have expected the buttons to be slightly smaller than the normal iPad touchscreen icons, on this new Mini they seem to have plenty of empty space around them and yet tapping on those tiny little icons can be a real pain for most of us with sausage fingers! While the buttons are not nearly as small as on the iPhones, thank heavens, they will definitely take some getting used to and will likely frustrate many as they continuously double tap the screen!
Overall the iPad Mini seems to be a beautiful device with a great display, an HD camera, and so much more. Its iconic Apple design featuring it in white or black truly will capture the interests of millions of customers once it hits the shelves later on! Let’s pray for an early release date on this sweet new mini tablet!
